What about Drinking Water Competition
Why
buy a Paragon Shower Filter
Most
authorities feel that we take in more chlorine from one shower than
drinking the same water in one day. Why, they ask, would they need
one since they're not drinking the water? The surprising answer
is that a person absorbs far more contaminants showering than he
would by drinking the water. When one drinks the water, it goes
through the digestive system, septic system and ultimately it is
processed and some part ends up in the blood stream.
When
showering however, the hot water opens the pores and the chlorine
and other contaminants are absorbed through the skin. One needs
only to note the effectiveness of the nicotine patch in order to
appreciate the effectiveness of transdermal. In the same way, contaminants
are absorbed, only they bypasses the digestive systems and other
systems and go directly into the blood stream. There is a proven
link between chlorine and bladder cancer as published in Public
Health magazine by Dr. Halina Brown in the American Journal of Public
Health.
Another
area of great concern is, inhalation of fumes. Of course, in the
shower stall, it's a small area, and the hot water produces steam
making it very easy to inhale chlorine, which is after all, a gas
as well as, water born Radon gas.
According
to Consumer Reports, "Radon poses a greater health risk than any
other environmental pollutant". According to EPA Estimates, "Inhaled
Radon causes between 10,000 and 40,000 lung cancer deaths each year".
Joseph Cotruvo, Director of the Criteria and Standards Division
of the EPA Office of Drinking Water says, "Water born Radon may
cause more cancer deaths than any other drinking water contaminants
combined".
Above
and beyond all health considerations, the shower filter is an amazing
beauty aid. American women spend millions of dollars annually on
skin moisturizer emollients, and other things to fight dryness,
as well as conditioners and other activities to keep the hair from
becoming totally brittle. The shower filter, instead of working
like cosmetics to cover up blemishes and eczemas, treats the situation
at the source naturally so that by the removal of chlorine, hydrogen
sulfide and other chemicals, dry skin largely disappears as do the
harsh affects on hair and scalp. The natural oils remain in the
scalp and the dryness is gone. Cases of eczema have cleared. Women
that tint hair find that the color remains true initially and for
a longer period of time because of the removal of chlorine, which
acts as an oxidizer of the color of hair.
Shower
Filter Competition
Some
major companies have made showers out of carbon block, which clogs
relatively quickly, (less than a month). When hot water hits carbon,
the carbon avalanches VOC's and other contaminants that it may have
picked up a very undesirable quality. Our shower filters are never
made with carbon block and would never be primarily carbon based.
Although there are other shower filters that claim to reduce high
amounts of chlorine, they are making claims for up to 3 to 6 months.
The Paragon showers are effective for up to 1 year for a family
of 4, depending on water quality.

The
book and subsequent movie, "The Civil Action" focuses on a case
in Woburn, Massachusetts where there appeared to be unusually large
incidents of Leukemia occurring in that Region. They went way beyond
the statistics of normal disbursement of that disease. It was ultimately
found to be linked to the chemical "Trichlorethine" that was being
dumped on the property of the W.R. Grace Company. This contaminated
city wells. It caused the leukemia outbreaks, which unfortunately,
targeted children from 9 to 11 years old.
Tragedies
like this could be avoided by use of Paragon Water processors.
Lead
"At
one time, most of us believed that if there was any lead that found
its way into the water supply, it was caused by lead base paint
or lead pipes that went back many years. The reality is, there is
as much lead in the water now as there ever was, if not more so.
For example: If someone were to take out the plumbing in his home
and install all new copper pipes, the pipes would likely be attached
with lead solder and even though codes call for lead free solder.
In too many cases, plumbers are still installing the lead solder
because of its' ease of melting and holding the pipes together.
As a result, even in a brand new home you could be leaching lead
into the water system.
According
to Consumer Reports lead levels once considered safe are now known
to threaten health of infants and children particularly in the United
States. The EPA estimated in 1986 that some "40 million Americans
were using drinking water containing potentially hazardous levels
of lead". "Acute lead poisoning can cause severe brain damage and
even death. The developing nervous systems of fetuses, infants and
children are particularly vulnerable. Recent studies show that lead
exposure at a young age can cause permanent learning disabilities
and hyperactive behavior.
It
would appear that rather than dosing our children with Ritalin,
or performing chemical lobotomies, the problem could be avoided
by simply installing filters which would render the water lead free.
Going on further with Consumer Reports: "Pregnant women should be
especially concerned about lead in drinking water. Lead not only
may impair mental development of the fetuses, but it can also increase
the risk of low birth weight, elevation of blood pressure, chronic
anemia and peripheral nerve damage".
Crypto
More
recently, a protozoan cyst called Cryptosporidium has found its
way into reservoirs, lakes and rivers. This organism exists in cyst
form. It is brought to these open bodies of water by animals, such
as beaver, deer, cattle that use the water supply and contaminate
it fecally when they use the water.
These cystic are swallowed by humans and the body temperature and
other actions cause the cysts to open and the larva begin to create
havoc. There is no known treatment for Cryptosporidium and Giardia
and the body must rely solely on its' immune system to fight back
the infection. People with Cryptosporidiosis become seriously ill,
and in instances of impaired immune systems, such as with certain
kinds of hepatitis, chemotherapy patients and others contracting
cryptosporidium and giardia can be fatal since there's no treatment.
Although
municipalities have tried to remove Cryptosporidium from the drinking
water, the fact remains that they ran into major problems of water
flow, so a good many of the water supplies in the United States
do not remove cryptosporidium and giardia and once again, the consumer
must take individual action to preclude it from coming into his
home.
The
Water Filter Competition
Many
drinking water systems remove chlorine but do not reduce or remove
lead or Cryptosporidium effectively. For example: At one time, in
some of the mass merchants, one would be able to find many filters
indicating on the label that lead was removed by the use of Alumina
powder. Alumina powder is a dangerous item to be used as a lead
scavenger in water treatment because;
- If
the PH of the water changes, the lead will dump from the media
into the glass of the person getting water from his filter. This
can cause extremely high levels of lead, a quite undesirable situation.
- Alumna
powder leaves traces of aluminum oxide in the water which has
been linked to Alzheimer's and has been found in autopsied brain
tissue in Alzheimer patients. As a result, Paragon unlike many
of the other manufacturers removes lead by the use of a ceramic
based compound that instantly and permanently bonds the lead to
the metrics so that it never dumps and because it is inert, it
does not allow any chemicals to go into the product water.
